Designed specifically for hunting dangerous game, Norma's African PH ammunition is focused on delivering devastating bullet momentum with high sectional density and "Knock Out Value". This involves loading heavy-for-caliber bullets into some of the world's largest and most respected big game cartridges.
The .505 Gibbs is a perfect choice for the hunter who pursues the world’s most dangerous game – on any continent. Delivering in excess of 5,800 ft.-lbs. of bone-crushing energy at the muzzle, the .505 Gibbs uses a nominal bullet diameter of .505”, and bullets ranging from 540 to 600 grains, perfect for stopping an elephant or buffalo in its tracks.
Norma loads the following bullets for the .505 Gibbs:
600-grain Woodleigh Weldcore: Using the classic British nose profile and a proprietary bonding process, the .505 Gibbs will generate a muzzle velocity of 2,100 fps with this heavy slug, making it absolutely perfect for any situation where a quality soft-point is required. With high weight-retention and good Sectional Density, the Woodleigh Weldcore is the bullet of choice for lion, grizzly, hippo and buffalo.
600-grain Woodleigh Solid: Maintaining the same nose profile as its soft point counterpart, the Woodleigh Solid will deliver a non-expanding bullet to the same point of impact. The proven round nose configuration will feed flawlessly in your rifle, so you can count on Norma’s African PH ammunition when it’s all on the line. The Woodleigh Solid is a perfect choice for elephant, or for backup shots on buffalo, where straight-line penetration is paramount.
540-grain Norma Solid: Driven to a muzzle velocity of 2,300 fps, for over 6,300 ft.-lbs. of energy, the 540-grain Norma solid is an excellent choice for the .505 Gibbs. Its flatter meplat will feed reliably in bolt-action rifles, yet will give serious penetration from any angle. The monometal construction leaves no room for bullet failure, even when tough bones are struck. The Norma solid is a serious bullet, for serious hunting.
